Does My Car Need Suspension Repair?

Does My Car Need Suspension Repair? The suspension system of any vehicle completes several very important tasks that include ensuring all four wheels remain on the ground to allow for proper braking power, provide a smooth ride over all terrain types, and prevent the vehicle from rolling over during cornering. If your car or truck is suffering from suspension issues it's important to have them serviced to ensure your car remains safe and comfortable to drive. Should you encounter any of the following signs of suspension trouble be sure to visit your local auto repair shop as soon as possible.

One Corner is Low

Does it appear as if one corner of your vehicle is lower than the others? If this is the case but it looks like all of the tires are fully inflated then it can generally be assumed that the suspension in that corner of the car has failed. This issue will result in drifting and cause uneven tire wear. Head to a shop to get everything straightened out as soon as possible.

Grease on the Struts

If your ride seems a little more rigid or excessively bouncy you can check the conditions of your struts or shocks by running a rag over them. Struts and shocks use a hydraulic fluid to absorb the bumps in the road, but if a seal breaks or the casing of the part cracks this fluid can leak out and will appear as an oily substance on a rag.

Rolling Sensation

One of the scarier signs of suspension trouble is if it feels as if your car is going to roll over or spin out of control while going around a corner. This is often caused by a failed anti-sway bar, a part of the suspension system that is tasked with shifting the vehicle's center of gravity while cornering to ensure it doesn't roll over.

Excessive Bouncing

You can test your vehicle's suspension by performing a simple bounce test. To do so just push on the hood or trunk of the vehicle to get it bouncing up and down. Once it's moving pretty quick stop pushing and count how many up and down rotation pass before it comes to a rest. If it is more than four you likely need suspension repair.

If you believe that your car is suffering from suspension trouble be sure to visit a local auto repair shop as soon as possible. Unhealthy suspension can lead to control issues and rough rides!
